Back to Middle-Earth

This week my regular gaming group picked up our LOTR narrative campaign again. Hoping to complete all the Fellowship scenarios before the end of the year. The saga is kicking off small scale first with some wraiths and Dunedain before things start getting really interesting.

Fist mission saw the rangers attempting to stall the Ringwraiths entering the Shire.

The Men of Arnor put their best efforts into stopping the wraiths. Succeeding with a last minute bow shot that  banished  a wraith at the final hurdle. (Literally, the dippy sod failed to jump the wall and then got pin cushioned.)

Next mission put all nine wraiths on the board. They still needed to break through the Dunedain lines into Hobbit country, but it would take a bit of a run to achieve it.

At the final hedge row, marking the boarders to Hobbiton, the Rangers made their stand against the Nazgul, but it was in vain. Evil would not be denied this time.

For Game 3, the Nazgul were on the hunt. Frodo, Sam and Merry had to escape before the Wraiths could slay the Ringbearer.

Sam makes a valiant stand against the wraith...
... as his master escapes to safety.

A short write up, but some fun games. 2/3 wins to the goodies with the wraiths mildly annoyed, but far from defeated. The next few games will be played next month, in that time I've ferry and barge to build and I want to paint my Fellowship Gandalf model if I get the chance. Credit to Mike who painted the Rangers and Hobbits, I just did the Ringwraiths for this one.

A Bit of Bloodletting

Had a fairly quiet weekend this week. The missus was away for a bit and I took this as a chance to shift several half finished projects off my desk as well as start some new stuff. (more on that another day) I managed to finish off some artwork for Age of Savagery, something I've been dragging my feet with since Xmas. Not sure why, but have just felt distracted, but completing this page has given me a burst of determination to complete the rest of the pages in short order. (watch this space)

I finished painting the Nazgul for some upcoming LOTR narrative missions. My local group is finally getting back into the habit after some down time. I'm really looking forward to this.

I also managed to get a game of Kill Team in. My opponent is looking to get back into the hobby so hasn't got any of his own stuff, but I was happy to loan him a team and we had a laugh.

And that's my weekend. Until next time.

Bad Loon Rising (again)

For the longest time now, I've tipped-toed around playing Age of Sigmar properly. That is to say, playing it on a regular basis rather than just buying stuff and never doing anything with the books. One caveat I always used to make was that if GW ever gave Goblins their own army book to bring them in line with the othe AoS races I'd give it a go. Well GW delivered on their end of the bargain, but I whiffed on mine.

Two of the people I used to play against regularly that still had WFB armies were still holding out for the same deal. One an Empire player, the other, Ogre Kingdoms. One night last year, we got into a drunken ramble about how the Ogres were the Red-Headed step child of AoS and they'd be fazed out along with Tomb Kings, Brettonia and the old school Empire and Dwarf stuff. (No one mentioned the elves) I was hopeful that this wouldn't be the case, but I was in a minority.

The very NEXT DAY! GW announces new books for Ogre Kingdoms and Cities of Sigmar. Now that We've all had a chance look over them and get a few real-life bits out of the way, My friends have taken the plunge. Rebasing and building new models to flesh out out models for a new era. Having already bumbled  into Warcry, I carried on with the Goblin paint scheme.

Eventually I dug out The Box. Yes the big ol' carry case that has remained unopened and unused since WFB 8th Edition was canned. Almost 5000pts of fully painted Goblin goodness was coming back into the world. I initially wanted to repaint it all, but after sitting down and comparing the new  models I had done with contrast paints and my older colour scheme, I decided there was no need. Rebased and given some TLC sure, but a complete re-paint would have been an unnecessary slog.

So here are the first rebased models from the old guard, along side some newer pieces. I'll be looking to get a game with them in a few weeks so I'll get that posted soon.

Also there's this giant ball of insanity!
