More Waaagh! Than You Bargained For

Hello all, my it's been a while since I looked in on this place. Despite my absence from posting here I have still managed to get a fair bit of hobby. Either playing or painting, it's been pretty easy going up to now work wise. 

First to get shown off is the next stage of Retro Ork army. Following the early release of the new codex I dug out my oldhammer boar boys and set to work building a Snakebites contingent to run alongside the Goffs. Long term I'd love to have all six clans represented and run the whole army as freebooters, but that's a WAAAAAAY off yet. For now, here are the first few boys that were painted for proof of concept.

I'm going to paint up a few more of these lads to bulk up the numbers and see what I can do for a Retro style Hunta Rig for them to roll about the field with. Next is a Noc on Super Cyboar. He'll count as a Smasha Squig under the new rules.

Finally, the Squig Hog (Boar)  Boyz. I couldn't bring myself to chop up the riders too much to match the newer weapons and bioniks, bot the pigs were another story. The Boars were bought second hand and were in pretty rough shape when I got them. This meant that bioniks and major repairs were not only possible, they essential! The engine replacements for the back legs are Kromleck pieces and with a bit of clipping GS fit the piggies' rump perfectly. I may add one more boy in the future to round off the unit to 6 as it'll allow me the choice field one big mob or two smaller ones, but I'm all greened out right now.  

So my buddy's birthday is coming up and we're all getting together for some overnight warhammer. I've still a few bits for my AoS goblins to tart up ready, but we'll also be doing some Warcry too. With that in mind I think I'll paint something a little less green for now.

2nd Ed Waaaaagh!!!

 Well it has been a while hasn't it? Really world has been a bit nutty of late, but I've still been hobbying and I can finally show off my efforts. In it's entirety (ahead of the new Ork Codex) My 2nd Edition Goff army led by Ghazkhull (The mini version)

2nd ED Ghazzy isn't too impressive compared to his new model, but I still the goofy lookin' git. I gave him a chain blade bayonet and a beefier bosspole to chunk him up a bit and then made him a display base if I ever fancy using him a BIG Ghazz rather than a generic Warboss.

The warband in full features 2 Gun wagons, a Dread, a Mek, a Dok, 5 Nobz to run along with the Boyz and some Mega Nobz to hang out with Ghazz.

I think as a long term project, I'm aiming to paint up a retro contingent of each clan to the same standard and size. If I ever want to field units outside of their clan then I'll run the army as Freebooters, but this will go a long way in helping to stop me getting bored painting too much of one colour scheme. It also helps build large numbers of boyz to a decent standard. The heart of every Clan will be a block of 20 boyz built from models across the range so it'll have a great and varied look in the end. As much as everything here was painted new, I kind of see this as a chance to update or repaint some elements of my existing army as well as get some new units done.

The Dred has been in my army for a long while, but I really wanted to get him into the retro project. All he needed was a little bit of an update to his paint work and a flashy 2nd Ed style banner and he fits in nicely

Not too sure what this Mek is armed with, but someone is going to find out the hard way.

By all accounts these are the weediest models in the army, but the idea of putting these down as Mega Nobz in current rules makes me giggle.

This was the toughest unit to paint. Don't know why, but the Nobz Mob just seemed like such a slog, even before I started the banners. I'm still really happy with the finished result though.

It wouldn't be a Goff army without a Goff Rokker!

So what's next? Well that swanky new Codex is on the horizon and if everyone else is getting those chunky new Squig riders, who am I to ignore such an invitation. Going with the same plans as before, I'll play about with an army list using the old books for fun and see what I like, but I'll be building a Snakebite Clan this time. Complete with Pig riders, Cyboars and plenty odd boyz.

Rock 'n' Roll

 Another update to my Retro Waaagh! project. An essential for any Goff army if you ask me, Da Goff Rokker!!!

Complete with Grot Merch salesman, this lad is ready to get the boyz into some proper mosh pits. Everyone knows them Beakies can't mosh... except maybe Space Wolves.... maybe.

Bad Moon Unleashed

 Just as the UK starts to come back online, I managed to get some pictures of my Gloomspite Gitz army before I took it back to the storage lockers. 

The Manglers were a particular favourite for me. There really is so munch movement in such a big model.

As with my 40k Ork army, this isn't everything I have for the Goblin horde, but I'll continue to add more to it as I rebase older stuff and add new units. I've a Gobbopalooza box sitting on the side for ages...

Waaagh! Guldrek

Following on from my last post of Turnip28 goodness, lets stay in the dirty vegetable theme and move to fungus. Specifically sentient warmongering fungus better known as Orks. 

This was an army that started out as a desire to play Gorkamorka when Mad Max: Fury Road was in cinemas. Since that day it grew into a mish-mash of painting and converting that has a fairly good track record of wins and insane situations. 

The Mega-Doof is my pride and joy in the army. Sporting a complete rock band, heavy kannon and a fully charged Bluetooth speaker within the main hull, it really sets the tone for most of the games I play...until someone hijacks the speaker and puts on Ed Sheeran.

This is not everything I have for my 40k Orks. (It wouldn't fit on the table) I've a Stompa and some may have seen the early stages of my retro Goff army. Some of the models in the pictures will get redone to get added to the retro Goffs at some point, but this is a Waaagh that will only get bigger.

Vegetable Parade

 This week I'm collecting my larger armies from my FLGS while it moves location. This seemed like a good excuse to photograph my collection properly and all together rather than just bits as they get finished. Before my Ork army and my AoS Goblins return home however I think it's only fair to get some army shots of one of my most interesting completed projects in recent times: Turnip28.

This was something I started back last year. As the UK went into lockdown I suddenly found myself (like many) with way more free time than I have had since my uni days. Turnip28 had just been this odd little mix of miniatures and styles I saw on Twitter and it was intended to just be a few models for an interesting painting project. Then impulse control failed and now I have 2 armies and very little chance of stopping.

I have shown these before, but this is the first time I've taken pictures since I got my new lights and such to do the job properly. So here are (again) the Reekfield Free Company. Complete with cannon, knights and flashy (if muddy) pavises.

Next, the Gleebland Wandering Garrison. Once more featuring the towering Root Shrine I call The Chapel and having received some out riders.
